July 19th

Today we woke up late and left the canyon at 10:30. We rode and rode and did 203 km on the nose with 76 hills. The hills east of nipigon were verrrrrrry steep and and long! We biked until 9:30 am and are staying in Neys a very small place with 6 full time and 1 part time resident. We met the riders in wheelchair bikes, called "wheeltowalk". They are paraplegics riding across canada to facilitate a cure. They have been on tv, newspaper and radio. Their website is www.wheeltowalkcanada.org. They were very friendly and positive. I also had a dip in lake superior, pictured above. It was cold but tolerable, very refreshing. I am tired, only 6 more days of 200+ km to get home. We saw a mother bear and two cubs frolicking just by the road today. Tomorrow we head towards wawa, ontario. For those of you techies, I rode a leather seat called selle anatomica with a hole in the middle, it’s heavy around 500 grams but very comfortable, thanks again to bob’s advice. But after 2 days of riding the parts below became tender necessitating a large foam cover with a deep center groove over top by serfas. This combination was good until we hit kenora, ontario then I switched to a male Rx serfas seat. It is 510 grams which is heavy but great so far, no numbness because of a large center cutout and very supportive rear section. We both use chamois butter however I have switched to antifugal and antibiotic ointment to solve another problem, so far so good. I use bib shorts by specialized, which look like a wrestling suit until you put on a bicycling jersey. Now for a shower and bed at about midnight.
