July 20th

By popular demand there will be no more talk about my sore behind. Today we biked from neys to wawa. It rained again and our stuff is soaked. We slept in the parking lot of the wawa info center. Brain’s rear wheel hub failed after we heard two loud pops when he was climbing us a hill about half way to wawa. He had apparently no way of using his bike since the rear sprocket spun both ways with no forward momentum at all. I think he blew the free body inside the rear hub, a very rare complication. He hung on the back of my seat with his right hand and I pulled him along for about 3 km and up three hills, (he is heavy) we figured I couldn’t keep that up for 100 km so I left him behind and biked as fast as I could to white river, ontario about 25 km ahead to meet reg and the rv. While we were driving back to get brian we found him biking. He had managed to use an inner tube wrapped between the spokes and hub to support the cassette. He could bike slowly this way in a fixed gear. He truly amazed me with his idea. We changed his wheels and we were off again. We biked for more than 200 km and over 97 hills! I saw a cougar today, neat and five more people long distance riding. We got into a rainy wawa at 9:30 pm cold, tired and soaked to the bone. Tomorrow we head for the Soo (sault ste marie) about 225 km away.
