July 29th

We woke at about 7:30am and ate our usual peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches with milk and a banana each. At 8:30 started biking towards corwall which we reached around 11:00. We had lunch and headed off toward Quebec. We were excited to finally be leaving the province of ontario after about 2 weeks. Wow, ontario is one long province, almost as long as bc, alberta, saskatchewan and manitoba together. We entered "the belle province" and started the french lessons immediately. We met reg at Dorion just before montreal. We took lakeshore drive all the way into montreal since bikes are not allowed on the main highways, 20 or 40. However we had to take highway 20 across isle perot to the main island. No shoulder and only one lane therefore the traffic had to wait behind us to cross at rush hour. We heard a couple of "warm?!?" welcome remarks from the drivers, but we had no choice but to cross there. I got a flat on the bridge as well, bummer. The lakeshore drive was very curvy but scenic. There were people everywhere biking, running, kayaking, walking, playing, performing, eating, talking, kite flying, boating, etc. I couldn’t believe how many bikes were out on a Tuesday evening. The weather was great with a moderate breeze, big puffy clouds with warm sunshine. We biked into the lower more industrial part of montreal and had showers in the rv while it was parked in a large loading dock/parking lot area. We then took the rv for a drive around montreal. St. catherine street was just packed with people with noise, lights and a flurry of activity. We stopped on st urbaine, got out of the rv to hear an outdoor concert then walked up and down st. dennis avenue. We had a late dinner, then a warm drink in an outdoor café. We slept in the rv on top of the mountain after a walk in the woods to the grand chalet on the mountain overlooking the city.

Pictured is a waterfall at gananoque.
