Entry for July 30th

July 30th

Brian’s rear wheel, a mavic r-sys, had loose carbon spokes he wanted tightened.  Three bike shops did not want to touch them since they are so specialized and require special tools.  We went on a wild goose chase to the mavic distributor which happened to be in montreal.  I thought I would check my r-sys wheel also while we were there.  I discovered that one of my rear spokes had split in four pieces.  We had 2 spokes replaced, several tightened and all four hubs had a ring replaced since they were on recall.  This took hours and we finally left montreal at 5pm!!!  We rode about 3 ½ hours to Berthierville about 70km.  We were told by the tech that the mavic r-sys wheels are not for long distance riding or rough roads, therefore they are not recommended for a cross canada ride!  Too late to change wheels now, we’ll hope for the best.  Pictured is me in front of the old montreal olympic stadium.
