Entry for July 31st, 2008

July 31st

We left berthierville at 8:30am for trois rivieres which we reached at about 1100.  The small towns along the way are very cute with their sloped painted tin roofs and brightly coloured windows and walls.  We went into a very large church built in 1855 at “st anne de la perade”, a small town past trois rivieres.  Every tiny town has a large church with steeple and bell tower.  We rode on the 138 highway on the north shore of the st lawrence river which had great scenery.  But you guessed it, rain again.  We met several people riding across canada.  One couple was riding around quebec, they did not speak english at all.  We met three people riding from bc riding for breast cancer.  We arrived at quebec city about 8:15pm and had a little trouble finding reg.  He had a hard time finding a parking spot.  It was raining cats and dogs with lightning in quebec city however old quebec was just hopping, with bands playing, and people everywhere!  It is quebec’s 400 anniversary (1608-2008) this year and “400” signs are quite numberous.  Reg cooked brown rice, shrimp and chicken breast tonight, thanks reg, great!!!  Brian and I are tired and will hit the sack early tonight, about 1030.  We are back on schedule but tomorrow is supposed to be another 200 km day.  Today the wind was against us most of the day.
