July 6th
Today we slept in until about 840 at the banff train station parking lot. I had earplugs in so I slept well but the other two did not and they heard the loud train whistles all night. Brian and I hit the road at 1030 heading for calgary. We decided to keep riding until stratmore which is about 40 km east of calgary so Tuesday’s ride to medicine hat of 290 km is shorter. We met jimmy, a middle aged road savvy man, who is biking from vancouver to toronto. I believe he has no fixed address and explained to us how he sleeps in the ditches by the road. He got in the rv and we gave him a diet pepsi and he rode off east on his bike towards toronto. Brian and I had to ride fast to avoid an incoming storm with high winds and lightning. We just made it to stratmore when a torrential rain started. Later we went up the calgary tower and saw a panoramic view of the surroundings. Tomorrow we visit cpa members and go to the calgary stampede.
